Burning Pillar Candles
Pillar Burning Instructions
Pillar candles are very different to container candles. They are designed to hold the wax within the candle as it burns down into the center. It is important to follow the guidelines below to get the most out of your pillar candle.
- Before lighting, remove any labels.
- Before lighting always trim the wick to approx. 5-7mm. Keep wax pool free from debris. This can clog the wick.
- Place candle away from drafts and keep in sight. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Always place pillar candles on a heat-resistant surface, never directly on furniture or counter tops.
- When you first light your pillar candle, let the pool of wax reach within 5mm - 1cm of the outside edge, then extinguish and allow to cool for 12 hours. This will set the candle’s “memory” for all future burns. This is a really important step.
- If the candle is burning leaving an uneven pool of wax rotate the candle to get an even edge.
- If the candle wax pool starts dripping over the side or smoking occurs after lighting, extinguish the candle immediately, allow the wax to harden and trim the wick. Also check for a draft nearby.
- Place lit candles at least 10cm apart to avoid melting and warping due to heat from neighbouring candles.
- For subsequent burns don't burn your candle for longer than 4 hours at a time. Extinguish, let the candle cool down, trim the wick, and relight ensuring the wax pool is free of any debris.
- Avoid continuous short burning times; this will cause the candle to tunnel, resulting in a drowned wick and wasted wax.
- Store candles in an upright position in a cool, dry, dark place to avoid damage from heat and light.
